Is Devon Heaven?
Is Devon Heaven?
Or is it just heavenly?
This depends on you....
If you're seeking
A quiet country lane
A view of the sea
A sandy shore
Then go visit Devon
If you're seeking
Country pubs and home cooked food
And waves where you can surf
Then go visit Devon
If you're seeking
Farmers' markets
Antiques and crafts
And really good bakeries
Then go visit Devon
If you're seeking
Diverse scenery
Some windswept and wild
Some charmingly ordered
Then go visit Devon
You'll be thinking now
The author loves Devon
And the answer is sure
For me, Devon IS Heaven!

Hi - thought I recognised it - photo is six miles down the road from us - this being Saturday there will be market stalls along the main street in Honiton - straight because it's the course of Roman Road from London to Exeter - come along the main dual A30 from Exeter direction and before curving off for the Honiton by-pass you can see Honiton's main road straight ahead on the old route - turn off (past a Garden Centre that just closed as the Council tax was too much, and business wilted) and there's a building that was obviously once a toll house. Many antique shops, but Honiton lace no longer. One very popular ice cram parlour. A few pubs still. There's a space left clear in the street outside the church - space for funerals! Perhaps I should read the poem now.
ReplyDeleteDevon is Heaven, simply. That's why it rhymes so well! And I moved here from the Isle of Wight, another beauty spot...
